About This Spot

Stepping into La Casa de los Gorditos feels like being invited into a warm, laughter-filled home tucked just off the lively Carretera Tulum Coba. The gentle bustle of the kitchen and the scent of fresh tortillas baking set an easygoing, almost timeless rhythm here—a place where moments are savored as much as the food. It’s neither pretentious nor hurried, but a genuine crossroads of local tradition and heartfelt hospitality.

The atmosphere is intimate yet unpretentious, with spaces where families and friends gather around wooden tables, watching as handmade tortillas are expertly crafted by both seasoned hands and little helpers alike. This shared participation in preparation is more than a novelty—it’s a quiet celebration of culture and craft, inviting guests to connect with the Mayan roots threading through every flavor.

The food at La Casa de los Gorditos is more than nourishment; it’s storytelling on a plate. Cochinita Pibil and traditional dishes like Poc Chuc come alive through each bite, carrying the rich, smoky notes of Yucatán’s heritage. Meanwhile, fresh home-baked tortillas—crisply toasted and impossibly tender—offer a tactile link to place and people. Whether paired with a refreshing homemade lemonade or a simple beer, the flavors here linger like warm conversation long after the meal ends.

Beyond the dishes themselves, there’s a quiet reverence for the land and its history woven into the experience—the owners and staff eager to share tales behind their recipes, their ingredients, and the rhythms of the region. It’s a spot where the local way of life is both preserved and shared, not as a performance, but as an open invitation to feel at home in a different corner of the world.

Great restaurant to visit when in Coba- really cute setting, fresh made tortilla toasted in the eating area, and incredible dishes. We even got to make our own tortillas, it was a little fun addition. We had guacamole, Cocinita pibil, poc chuc con pollo, and palletas. Cocinita pibil and their homemade paletta (in passion fruits) were absolutely the best! The service was amazing, too.

It’s not a restaurant, it’s TOP EXPERIENCE! We arrived just because we were hungry, without expecting too much. But what we’ve got was a true experience of local culture. Everything was more than perfect. Service was so kind, and food delicious. We ate local specialties and got a chance to hear a full story behind every meal and ingredient. The owners are full of respect for their Mayan tradition and their meals are prepared on old recepies of Mayas. A special experience was when they included us in preparing little tortillas (tacos). The waiter gave us so many useful advices. So, in short, it was a great decision to stop here and a true highlight of the whole day. Do yourself a favor and visit this place

I would put more starts if I could!! Best spot in town. AMAZING food, service and athmosphere. They have lots of vegetarian and a couple of vegan options, they also have their whole menu gluten free. There is a lady that make tortillas in demand, literally you won’t find fresher tortillas anywhere else. It’s a must!

Really really good home made food. Try the pork speciality of the house. To die for. We even had a chance to do ourson tortillas in the traditional oven. And the home made lemonade is a must.

Such an amazing experience! The food was incredible, the location is convenient and stunning and we had a lovely chat with Carlos the kindest host, and Gloria who makes the best tortillas from scratch, she even taught us how to make our own tortillas!! If you’re on your way to Coba or Valladolid or if you’re just in the area, do yourself a favour and stop to try the cochinita! You won’t regret it! Thank you so much Casa de los Gorditos!! Claudia
